ABC Training - Swim England Level 1 assistant (teacher)

ABC Swim School can support people who are 16+ years with internal training gaining hands on experience in preparation to take this qualification.

What will this qualification enable me to do? 

You need to be 16 years of age at the start of the course.  Once qualified with your SEQ Swim England level 1 swimming assistant you will be able to assist an SEQ Swim England Level 2 teacher of swimming in the delivery of lessons for the Swim England learn to swim pathway. 

What skills do I need to apply?

  • Some written work however professional discussion can replace this if required
  • Practical teaching in the pool under the supervision of SEQ Swim England Level 2 teaching swimming instructors
  • Useful to have some knowledge of swimming skills and strokes however not essential at this point in your journey

ABC Training - Swim England Level 2 Teaching Swimming

ABC Swim School can support people who are 16+ years with internal training gaining hands on experience in preparation to take this qualification.

What will this qualification enable me to do? 

You need to be 16 years of age at the start of the course and completed and passed your Swim England SEQ Level 1 swimming assistant (teacher).  We recommend that you consolidate your Swim England SEQ Level 1 swimming teacher and gain experience of teaching Swim England stages 1 – 7 of the learn to swim pathway (LTSP)

Once qualified with your Swim England SEQ level 2 swimming teacher you will be able to teach your own classes, planning, delivery, assessing and supervising an Swim England SEQ level 1 swimming assistant in the teaching of Swim England LTSP. 

What skills do I need to apply?

  • Written work to include series of lessons, lesson plans, lesson overviews, assessments and action plans
  • Practical teaching in the pool taking classes and supervising your Swim England SEQ  Level 1 swimming assistant under the supervision of Swim England SEQ Level 2 swimming teachers mentors
  • Knowledge of swimming skills and the four competitive strokes
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and protecting children

ABC Training - NRASTC (National Rescue Award for Swimming Teachers and Coaches)

What will this qualification enable me to do?

The NRASTC is a supervision and rescue qualification for teachers working on the poolside or in the water during programmed activities, such as a swimming lesson. It is suitable for teachers working in a wide range of swimming pools, including pools where the water is deeper than the teacher’s standing depth.

What skills do I need to apply?

  • As a teacher swimming pool and class management
  • Intervention rescue and emergency action – able to reach the bottom on the pool that you work at to retrieve a manikin.
  • CPR and first aid

What will this qualification enable me to do?

The National Pool Lifeguard Qualification is the most widely recognised lifeguard qualification in the UK & Ireland and is a requirement for most lifeguarding jobs in the country. 

What skills do I need to apply?

These are the prerequisites

  • Jump / dive into deep water
  • Swim 50 metres in less than 60 seconds
  • Swim 100 metres continuously on front and back in deep water
  • Tread water for 30 seconds
  • Surface dive to the floor of the pool
  • Climb out unaided without ladder / steps and where the pool design permits
  • Shorts and T-shirt (to be worn in the water) and a towel.
    Photo identification (must be shown to the trainer on the first day of the course.)
    Notepad and writing material
